Israel supporters have shown time and again their willingness to abrogate Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms to serve their favoured supremacist state. If you support Israel killing hundreds of caged starving people seeking food then it’s easy to push firing or jailing a Canadian critic.
Wednesday The J.ca published “Montreal Author Under Police Review After Anti-IDF Posts Raise Hate Speech Concerns. Yves Engler’s ‘Death to IDF’ remarks prompt law enforcement scrutiny and public criticism amid rising tensions.”
The article cites far right Jewish supremacist X account Leviathan seeking to have me arrested and suggests a journalist contacted the Montreal police to enquire about my posts. Two days ago Leviathan tagged multiple police accounts with photos of my statements supporting Find My IDF next to my response to those condemning British music duo Bob Vylan. Their bid to have me arrested noted, “We wonder what @EnglerYves is trying to tell us. Maybe @SPVM @rcmpgrcpolice can help us figure it out before someone does something stupid. @Nat_Div_RCMP @rcmpqc.”
After tagging four different police X accounts, Leviathan added a second post explaining their (impeccable) logic: “Let’s put it in a mathematic equation: ‘Here Is A Database to Find IDF Soldiers in Canada’ + ‘Death To The IDF’ = ?????” (When far more Twitter users liked and shared my “death death to the IDF” response to their post Leviathan grumbled, “your fraudulent engagement is so evidently clear as you post them to your groups to gain ratios & algorithm manipulation.”)
While hardline Jewish supremacists push to arrest those backing a music duo, mainstream genocide lobby voices demand the government block Canadians from viewing musicians opposed to genocide. The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) recently demanded the government block Vylan and Irish rap group Kneecap from entering the country to perform while Liberal MP Anthony Housefather called on his government to follow the Trump administration in stopping the public from being able to view Vylan.
In a similar vein, Vaughn Mayor Steven Del Duca, Dahlia Kurtz and others recently pushed to get paramedic Katherine Grzejszczak fired for posting against genocide and Israel’s attacks on Iran. In a related incident of suppression, CUPE organizer and Communist Worker Circle activist Tynan Liebert will appear in court next week for protesting a Liberal Party fundraiser for then Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland. Before his trial on July 8 Liebert is organizing a rally calling for an end to Project Resolute, which is the Toronto police ‘hate crimes’ unit targeting opponents ofgenocide.
In another genocide enabling measure presented as anti-racist, justice minister Sean Fraser recently said the government would move forward with bubble zone legislation. CIJA is praising the federal government’s move, which effectively suppresses protests at schools and places of worship.
There’s a push to shutter anti-genocide sentiment inside schools as well. Last week Parkdale Collegiate Institute removed all Grade 12 quotes from the student yearbook. The reason was that some students made submissions related to Palestine and Tibet. Another Toronto school took similarly repressive measure in response to graduating students’ internationalism. Ursula Franklin Academy reportedly covered yearbook photos of two students wearing Palestinian keffiyehs.
In another example of Zionist authoritarianism, Thursday’s National Post called for arresting the coordinators of Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network. Nine months ago Ottawa added the Vancouver based group to Canada’s terrorism list (In an even more outrageous example of state overreach, Palestine Action was recently proscribed in the UK).
In a post sharing the front-page article about Samidoun, Pierre Poilievre called to “Lock up their leaders”. The leader of the Conservative party embarrassingly added that the “Liberals let a banned terror group keep charitable tax status… Strip their charitable tax breaks.” (Samidoun has never had charitable status, however, dozens of charities subsidized by all taxpayers assist the Israeli military, racist organizations and West Bank settlements in violation of Canada Revenue Agency charity rules.)
As Israel continues to kill one hundred starving Palestinians every day, its supporters in Canada work to intimidate, fire or jail opponents of the horror. They are acting just like the fascist, racist political parties in Israel. Which proves once again, as leftists predicted many decades ago, where Zionism, an ethno/religious nationalism would lead.
