A Canadian Zionist can tell a Palestinian they’ve killed their brethren, and plan to murder more, with little consequence. Conversely, a Palestinian activist accused of speaking in support of his colonized people’s right to resist genocide is charged with supporting terrorism.
At a Monday afternoon rally in support of Montreal city council voting to break ties with the genocidal Jewish supremacist state, a man got on a raised part of the park to yell at the gathering crowd. Robert Moisescu, who writes under the pseudonym Bobby Moses, ranted about “Muslim colonization” in the Middle East and an upcoming “civil war”. He then shoved prominent activist Andre Querry’s camera into his face, cutting the photographer’s nose. After the assault several individuals intervened. One of them was Independent Jewish Voices activist Zev Saltiel, who was wearing a Kippah. Moisescu launched into a barrage of insults including yelling “faggot”.
After that Moses was effectively driven out of the area by the crowd (police walked over but did little). As Moisescu walked away from the rally he berated a young woman with a keffiyeh and a 30ish Arab guy. Eventually Moses turns to the Arab man and repeatedly yells I’m a “Yahoodiy” (Jew in Arabic) and says, “I’m a Zionist” and I f**king killed a lot of motherf**kers like you… I’m going back to do more.”
My short clip of the ‘kill Palestinians’ comment went viral. Millions have watched different versions of it with international commentators, such as George Galloway and Ana Kasparian, sharing it and tagging the police.
Nonetheless, Facebook removed my widely shared post. They claimed it encouraged violence.
In reality, exposing a genocidal Jewish supremacist undercuts violence. On Substack Moisescu has a slew of posts promoting violence against Palestinians or claiming he’s been “cracking woke- pro-pali [stinian] skulls in da street.”
If Moses’ posts are to be believed he lived in Israel and fought in the IOF. He is also a convicted felon. Moisescu robbed a bank in New York State and apparently also spent time in a Canadian jail for other matters.
Three minutes after he assaulted Querry and two blocks from the site, a police officer eventually detained Moisescu for questioning. I only stayed for 30 seconds of the questioning but it did not appear like they planned to arrest him. There’s been no public update.
It is revealing to contrast Moisescu’s treatment with what opponents of genocide have faced. In my case, the Montreal police hate crimes unit charged me for responding to a Zionist influencer’s racist, pro-genocide, statements on X (I didn’t make any threats). More pertinent, the Toronto police recently charged Palestinian Canadian Ahmad Hajahmad with “Participating in or Contributing to Activities of a Terrorist Group” for (purportedly) offering rhetorical support for Hamas’ armed resistance to Israeli colonial rule at two rallies in 2024.
A Jewish man can disrupt a pro-Palestinian rally screaming derogatory comments, assaulting someone and telling an Arab he’s “killed a lot of motherf**kers like you” and wants to kill “more” with little establishment media or police interest. If a Palestinian did something similar the reaction would be far different.
The double standard should be shocking but it is not because we have become accustomed to the power imbalance between Canadians who support Israel’s crimes and those who do not. Still, all people of conscience should work to ensure everyone is treated fairly and equally by the police and legal system. That’s a minimum standard in a truly democratic country.
