The Toronto Star support genocidal Jewish supremacy. Canada’s most liberal English language daily is so biased it won’t even publish a letter responding to its smears.
Last week Mark McQueen suggested I was antisemitic in a Star column headlined “Moral leadership doesn’t require Ottawa’s permission”. Under the sub header “Antisemitic incidents” the former Brian Mulroney advisor wrote, “Just last week, Montréal’s Startupfest became a flashpoint when activist Yves Engler interrupted a fireside chat involving Shopify President Harley Finkelstein, shouting and calling him ‘genocidaire,’ according to Betakit. Engler said after the event that he was challenging Finkelstein’s support for Israel during the Gaza war. But given the circumstances, it struck me that one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs was being targeted as a Jewish man to answer for the actions of Israel.”

In response I sent “Challenging genocide supporters is moral leadership” to the Star letter section. It read “Mark McQueen claims I ‘targeted’ Harley Finkelstein ‘as a Jewish man to answer for the actions of Israel’ when I interrupted a recent fireside chat the Shopify President was having with former UFC champion George Saint Pierre to ask, ‘why do you support the genocide in Gaza?’. But Finkelstein has posted dozens of statements on X justifying Israel’s genocidal violence in Gaza and recently funded the Finkelstein Chabad Jewish Centre in Ottawa, which has a section on its website headlined “Connecting with Israel”. Challenging supporters of Israel’s genocide and repeated wars is moral leadership.”
Five days later the paper has yet to publish my letter.
The Star has repeatedly smeared me. In its pages last summer Justin Ling labelled me a “conspiracy-minded author” while Israel-no-matter-what columnist Rosie DiManno called me “the repellent Yves Engler”. The Star published “Aspiring NDP leader may be breaking rules, official says” suggesting my leadership campaign, which had far more success raising money than many anticipated, was engaged in questionable financial dealings (the NDP brass who later blocked me from the race never cited finances to justify their odious move).
The Star is a genocidal rag. On Saturday they published an anti-Palestinian screed from Michael Coren about the Church of England voting to encourage congregations to read and engage with a report by Palestinian Christians titled “Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide.” Coren complains that it describes Israel as a “colonial enterprise” and claims there is “profound division among experts” about whether Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. There is not. Coren even claims that displaced Jews had to go to Palestine for “genetic” reasons. “Where else could all of these people go apart from to a land where they have proven historic and genetic links?”, the Star columnist wrote. (In 2006 Coren published a Toronto Sun column headlined “We should nuke Iran”.)
Multiple analyses have shown how the paper is biased against Palestinians. A Breach analysis of the Star’s coverage two and half months after the October 7 attack found the paper used the term “massacre” to describe violence inflicted on Israeli 73 times vs only 19 times for Palestinians. Employed 27 times, the term “slaughter” was exclusively reserved for what happened to Israelis.
In another analysis a month later, Jeremy Appel noted that only five of 18 Star op-eds on the genocide opposed the war while “DiManno alone wrote four columns suggesting that Israel was blameless for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
Three years into the horrors in Gaza, slaughter in Lebanon and Israeli lawlessness across the region Canada’s most liberal English language paper publishes Coren, Dimanno, McQueen, Martin Regg Cohn, Michael Levitt and other Jewish supremacists. The Toronto Star is complicit in horrific crimes.
The least of which is bad journalism ethics. When you go out of your way to slag someone, shouldn’t you offer them a chance to respond?
