The defeat of Pierre Poilievre has insulated Canada from the worst of the authoritarian Zionism sweeping the US. But Canadians promoting Israel’s final solution in Gaza continue to attack liberal democratic norms.
In recent days B’nai Brith and Honest Reporting Canada have called on the Canada Border Security Agency to block Irish rap group Kneecap from entering the country to perform. At the Coachella music festival in LA last month Kneecap displayed a graphic during their set reading “Fuck Israel, Free Palestine”. Another message noted, “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people” and “It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes.”
Over 4,000 have signed a petition calling on promoters to cancel Kneecap’s show in Vancouver.
As they organize speaking tours for Israeli soldiers who participated in the genocide in Gaza, Zionist groups are calling on Ottawa to ban visitors critical of Israel.
Last week B’nai Brith intervened at the Ottawa police services board because the cops didn’t aggressively pursue an individual for “inappropriate” dress. The Zionist organization claimed the “Ottawa Police failed to sufficiently respond after an individual dressed as a Hamas militant at a public protest in the city.” In its highly authoritarian recent “five concrete steps your government must take to protect Canadian Jews”, Honest Reporting calls for training police so they know to “block public protests” where people chant “from the river to the sea”.
Zionists also want to defund universities that are insufficiently aggressive in suppressing opposition to genocide. Backed by Canada’s main Zionist groups, Poilievre committed to mimicking the Donald Trump administration’s attack against universities. Fortunately, Timbit Trump lost but the Zionist pressure continues. On Friday the former head of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre and founder of the Abraham Global Peace Initiative published a National Postcommentary headlined “Universities are a wrecking ball against civilization”. Avi Benlolo wrote, “The only way to change universities is to hold them financially accountable. That means suspending government grants, investigating foreign funding, and even reconsidering their charitable status if they enable hate.”
On Thursday Pivot published an investigation — based on emails released through access to information — about uber Zionist Liberal MP Anthony Housefather’s repeated interventions with McGill president Deep Saini. In “«Call me Anthony» : un député libéral a fait pression sur McGill contre le mouvement pro-Palestine” Léa Beaulieu-Kratchanov reports on 25 emails Housefather sent between October 26, 2023 and September 26, 2024 to Saini as part of an effort to press the university administration to clampdown on student opposition to genocide.
At the start of the month B’nai Brith launched a class action suit against McGill purportedly on behalf of all Jewish students. They are claiming the university is insufficiently hostile to opponents of Israel’s holocaust.
In another instance of Zionists pressing McGill to be more racist, the head of the Association des Médecins Juifs du Québec, Lior Bibas, boasted that he contributed to the end of a diversity, equity and inclusion initiative at the university’s medical program, which was reprimanded by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools for its failure to train Indigenous, Black and Filipino doctors. Bibas celebrated the demise of the medical program’s Social Accountability and Community Engagement office and announced that he sent a letter to the medical dean calling for the removal of one of the individuals ultimately let go.
In several Ontario municipalities there’s a major push on to adopt “bubble zones” restricting the right to assembly enshrined in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The push for bubble zones was prompted by protests in front of Jewish community centres and synagogues hosting Israeli soldiers and property sales. Vaughn has adopted bubble zone legislation while Toronto and Ottawa are formally reviewing legislation and Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville have discussed the matter.
At the prodding of his uber Zionist chief of staff Marco Mendicino, Prime Minister Mark Carney has endorsed bubble zones. A month ago he posted, “We will make it a criminal offence to intentionally and willfully obstruct access to any place of worship, school, or community centre.”
As Israel starves millions by blocking thousands of trucks full of food from entering Gaza, its supporters in Canada seek to suppress opposition to basic democratic rights. Unchecked Zionism seems to have become fascism.
