As most of world concludes Israel is a rogue terrorist state, Canadian media give prominent positions to Zionist activists. The appointment of Ben Mulroney to anchor Global New’s The West Block highlights the genocidal character of the media establishment.
Yesterday Al Jazeera noted, “Israel has attacked six countries in the past 72 hours” while antiwar.com explained “Israel Kills at Least 35 in Heavy Airstrikes on Yemen” and Press TV noted “Israeli drone strike kills one civilian in southern Lebanon in violation of ceasefire”. A BBC headline explained, “Video shows destruction of fourth Gaza tower block in as many days” while the Australian Broadcast Corporation noted, “Israel blows up peace negotiations in Qatar” and a Doctors Without Borders story read, “The offensive in Gaza City is a death sentence for one million Palestinians.”
Concurrently, Global News announced the appointment of Ben Mulroney as interim host of their weekly political affairs show The West Block. The son of a former Conservative prime minister will replace Mercedes Stephenson as host during her year-long maternity leave.
But Mulroney is an “ambassador” for a leading genocide lobby organization and is an aggressive proponent of the holocaust in Gaza. On Tuesday he led a fireside chat organized by B’nai Brith with former Prime Minister Stephen Harper. According to a Winnipeg Free Press headline, “Former PM Harper defends Israel at Winnipeg event”. In February B’nai Brith appointed Mulroney as one of the organization’s “ambassadors”. Since then, Mulroney has spoken at other events put on by genocide lobby groups.
As for any sort of commitment to a free press, Mulroney believes in suppressing Canadians’ right to protest genocide. During a January episode of the Ben Mulroney Show on Toronto’s 640 News he hung up on a caller who said Canadians have a right to protest genocide. In the exchange Mulroney claimed there is no right to protest in Canada and compared accusations of Israeli genocide to the flat earth theory. Yet already by then, Amnesty International, the United Nations Human Rights Council and a stream of other experts had all concluded Israel was committing genocide.
On several occasions Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East has highlighted Mulroney’s anti-Palestinianism. Additionally, a November 2023 Friday Things article detailed his anti-Palestinian racism in “Ben Mulroney’s Xenophobic Tweets and 3 Other Recent Journalism Fails.”
As Israel pursues its final solution in Gaza and crimes across the region, Global News puts a Zionist activist in charge of its lead political affairs program. Once again, the loathsome, racist nature of Canada’s corporate media is revealed for any reasonable person to see.
Beginning September 18 I will be speaking in Toronto, Waterloo, Niagara, Vancouver, Nanaimo, Duncan, Victoria and Winnipeg against genocide, militarism and capitalism. In Toronto, Rabbi David Mivisair, University of Toronto student encampment organizer Sara Rasikh, former Canadian Union of Postal Workers President Mike Palecek and others will join the event. In its first days of fundraising my campaign to lead the NDP has already raised over $40,000. Please donate so we can get on the ballot.
