More than half of Canadians now view Isreal as genocidal. Yet Zionists groups still have the power to suppress, block and even arrest critics of the lawless apartheid state.
Over the weekend the University of Guelph was set to host the People’s Conference for Palestinian Solidarity. But the administration canceled it days before an event that had been in the works for months. Reportedly, the university didn’t even offer a reason for canceling a conference with some 400 individuals expected to attend.
In a similar vein, the University of Ottawa effectively canceled the Palestine Tribunal on Canadian Responsibility. The November 14-15 event included several prominent individuals such as Ellen Gabriel, Alex Neve and Michael Link. One of the many well-known speakers, former UN special representative Richard Falk, was interrogated for four hours by Canadian border guards enroute to Ottawa.
A week ago, police raided the homes of longtime Palestine activist David Heap, World Beyond War Canada lead Rachel Small and a handful of others who protested last month’s “Best Defence” Conference in London. Police conducted coordinated pre-dawn raids across southern Ontario, arresting five who successfully picketed an arms fair held by Elbit, Lockheed Martin and other weapons makers.
Last week community activist Rana Zaman was targeted by the genocide lobby after receiving a 2025 Halifax YMCA Peace Medal for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Under pressure from Zionist lobby groups, the YMCA rescinded the award. In response B’nai Brith commended the YMCA for rescinding Zaman’s medal.
In 2019 Zaman made headlines when she was elected as NDP candidate to run in the riding of Dartmouth-Cole Harbour. After pressure from Zionists, the federal NDP revoked her candidacy because she had defended Palestinians mowed down by Israeli snipers during the Great March of Return.
For its part, the NDP looks set to cower to Zionists seeking to block my bid to lead the party. A slew of prominent anti-Palestinian forces from B’nai Brith to Israel Now, Jeremy Levi to Brian Liley have demanded the party block members from being allowed to choose my candidacy in the leadership race. The former head of the Jewish Defence League Meir Weinstein boasted that his campaigning contributed to the NDP barring me from last week’s debate and party social in Montreal.
The day after the NDP debate I stood trial for allegedly harassing and interfering with the police for promoting an email petition campaign. The charges came after I responded to a police investigator charging me for allegedly harassing anti-Palestinian media influencer Dahlia Kurtz.
When will Canada’s political, legal and educational institutions stop targeting those opposing Canada’s complicity in apartheid and genocide?
