Israel apologists’ hypocrisy soars over threat to NDP head

Under pressure the National Post tempered its incitement against Avi Lewis. Still, Zionists are denying the threat against the NDP leader and have even turned a denialist genocidaire into the victim.

In “Jewish law tells us how to deal with Avi Lewis” Yoni Goldstein effectively called for the leader of the NDP to be killed last week. In the National Post the former editor in chief of the Canadian Jewish News invoked biblical tales of fire consuming disloyal Jews while calling Lewis “a clear and present danger to the Jewish community” with other Jews “duty-bound to step in.”

Among NDP supporters and pro-Palestinian groups, the article was widely condemned. Independent Jewish Voices, National Council of Canadian Muslims, United Jewish People’s Order, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East and other groups criticized the column. Left media outlets Ricochet, Breach, Rational National and others published articles/videos critical of the threat. The President of CUPE national Mark Hancock and several current and former NDP MPs criticized it.

Probably due to the backlash the National Post failed to publish the column in the physical paper. This small win was attained despite the dominant media all but ignoring the threat. A Google search found a single (obscured) mention buried deep in a Canadian Press story quoting Liberal MP Salma Zahid. The article noted, “She spoke out this week about the backlash against NDP Leader Avi Lewis following his public statements on Israel. Zahid said she believes some of the language used by Lewis’s critics could put him at risk.”

Alongside the dominant media, Jewish Zionist groups and figures ignored the incitement against Lewis. IJV activist Judy Haiven published “Hear No Evil” in which she questions “Why are Canada’s leading Jews saying nothing about the call for assassination of NDP Leader Avi Lewis?” Haiven specifically names Rosalie Abella, Irving Cotler, Bob Rae, Meric Gertler, Sheldon Levy and Steve Paikin.

Silence is odious, but some Zionist extremists went further by turning a Jewish supremacist threat denialist into the victim. Canadaland founder Jesse Brown quote tweeted Samira Mohyeddin’s Ricochet article “National Post crosses dangerous line by publishing call for violence against NDP leader” with the statement, “A whole piece about how the National Post called for violence against Avi Lewis without a single quote in which the National Post called for violence against Avi Lewis. Because it never happened.”

In response Mohyeddin quoted tweeted Brown with the mocking statement, “Jesse Brown poses a clear & present danger to the Muslim community. Luckily, Sharia law is very explicit about how to deal with threats like his. We tried talking to him but the time for debate has passed & according to Sharia law, every Muslim is duty bound to act. Inshallah.”

Several hardline Zionists, who had no problem with Goldstein’s incitement against Lewis, claimed Mohyeddin threatened Brown. The director of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s Promised Land project, Casey Babb, stated, “This sounds like a death threat towards Jesse Brown. What the hell is going on in this country?” (he later deleted it) Another prominent Zionist activist asked, “Who else sees this as a death threat — wrapped in Sharia Law?” For his part, Ezra Levant called Mohyeddin a “monster”. The Rebel News head posted, “It will not surprise you that this Jew-hating monster is a former CBC journalist.”

Zionist cynicism is stunning. They saw and quoted the thread but simply ignored the context. Apparently, only a genocidal Jewish supremacist who justifies violent incitement can be a victim of death threats.
